LOS ANGELES — Wicked Pictures has announced "The Batman XXX: An Axel Braun Parody Series," a "provocative interpretation" of the forthcoming Warner Bros. feature starring Robert Pattinson, is in pre-production. The ambitious project is intended as a reboot of Braun's interconnected series of award-winning superhero titles.
Braun's "Captain Marvel XXX" captured two XBIZ Awards earlier this year for Best Art Direction and Best Special Effects.
Wicked unveiled the news concurrently with DC FanDome, an immersive, global fan experience centered on exclusive reveals and teasers for upcoming films, games and TV shows.
"The Batman XXX" will unfold over eight 45-minute weekly episodes on Wicked.com, followed by a six-hour Bluray release.
“This will be a full reboot,” Braun revealed. “I am recasting all roles, and the series will live independently from all the events of my future and previous standalone feature projects in the 'DC AxelVerse.' That will allow me an opportunity to showcase many of the new talented performers in the industry, and to bring a fresh perspective to the world of Gotham City.”
A Wicked rep explained additional details "remain tightly under wraps. The project represents a major expansion of the DC AxelVerse, featuring an array of supervillains and more than a few surprise guest appearances. A virtual casting call will be announced at a later date, once the scripts are finalized."
While the series is currently scheduled to shoot in 2021, "Wicked is currently continuing to observe the production hold it announced in March to safeguard the health and welfare of its cast and crew from the risk of exposure to COVID-19," said the rep. "The many aspects of pre-production currently underway include writing, storyboarding, production design, and, of course, the designing of costumes."
