Lovehoney Survey Reveals UK Sex Plans for Leap Day 2020

LONDON — A new Lovehoney survey reports that a majority of Britons are planning on using February 29 to have sex.

"Almost two-thirds of couples (61 percent) plan to use the extra day on February 29 to have sex," said a rep. "And a quarter of couples (25 percent) plan to stay in bed all day with it falling on a Saturday. Six out of ten couples (63 percent) will spice up their fun by experimenting with a sex toy."

The results are from a new survey of 2,700 people by U.K. sexual wellness brand Lovehoney. The company claims that "almost half of couples (47 percent) were more likely to have sex" because of the extra day in the calendar.

"The findings show why it’s important to make the most of the extra time on February 29," said the rep.

The survey maintains that "many couples are going to break with their regular routine on Leap Year Day to get passionate, because they usually spend their Saturdays relaxing in the pub (29 percent), doing DIY (41 percent), going shopping (43 percent) or watching TV (66 percent)."

However, still according to Lovehoney's sample, four out of ten couples said that despite the extra time "they would still be too busy for sex."

The company explained that "everyone (98 percent) would love it if their partner surprised them with a day of romance and intimacy on Leap Year Day, and 91 percent would enjoy receiving a sexy present — 34 percent choosing lingerie, 29 percent a vibrator and 21 percent handcuffs."

February 29, said the rep "is the one day in the calendar every four years when women can traditionally propose, and almost one in three women (27 percent) say they would ask their partner to marry them."

More than a third of women surveyed (35 percent) said the idea of a female proposing to their partner on February 29 was "an outdated and sexist tradition," but 48 percent accept it.

"Four out of ten couples say they will be too busy for sex, but why not make the most of Leap Year Day? Skip the usual pub and Netflix routine for a saucier Saturday, and get Leap Year Day off with a bang," said the rep.
