JBT Foundation, GMHC Promote Preventative Health Screenings at Sex Expo NY

NEW YORK — The Just Been Tested Foundation (JBT) is returning to Sex Expo New York, joining forces this year with Gay Men's Health Crisis (GMHC) to offer information on preventative health screenings.

“JBT is focused on accessing people where they are most comfortable and excited to be,” said Alonzo Davis, the foundation's executive director. “We want to make preventative health screening easy and available for all populations; so, we stay in the field, being present at high-foot-traffic locations and social events. We want to normalize health screenings so it becomes less taboo, like other wellness activities such as yoga class, spin class or going to the gym.”

With Sex Expo's emphasis on sexual wellness and education, Davis says the Brooklyn event is an ideal fit for JBT, who similarly partnered with ACRIA, an HIV research and education foundation, to attend last year's convention.

“The Sex Expo is the perfect blend of activities that involve education, wellness, energy and safety,” explained Davis. “These are all the same themes we bring to the people when we perform health screenings. We are excited to participate in an event that promotes this message.”

Set for the weekend of September 21-22 at the Brooklyn Expo Center, Sex Expo New York will feature several contests and giveaways, along with showcases from top pleasure product manufacturers and sex-ed workshops hosted by educators and sexperts alike.

Founded in New York City in 1982, GMHC has focused on HIV/AIDS prevention and care and has been at the forefront of HIV/AIDS awareness for 37 years; for more information, visit GMHC.org or follow them on Twitter and Facebook.
