Microsoft Broadens Language Program

REDMOND, Wash. -- Adult webmasters could bolster their business because Microsoft is doubling their roster of languages.

The software giant said Tuesday that it is on its way to expand its language program, from 40 to 80.

Hundreds of millions of people speak the languages that will be offered, but it's uncertain how many of them have access to computers right now.

The latest versions of the company's dominant Windows computer operating system, as well as Office, PowerPoint and Excel software, will soon be available in languages ranging from Ethiopia's Amharic to Inuktitut of the Arctic's Inuit in the near future, Microsoft said in a press release. It won't cost extra for existing Microsoft customers to get the Language Interface Pack software.

The program has already resulted in a Hindi version of Microsoft's software, and there are plans to make Windows available in 13 more languages spoken in India.
