Adam & Eve Survey Reveals Stats on Abortions

HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. — Adam & Eve today released new results from its annual sex survey.

More than 1,000 adults were asked if they (or their partner) had ever had an abortion, and how they felt about it.

Researchers found that while 25 percent of the women and 20 percent of the men said they had undergone an abortion in their lifetime, 27 percent of the women and 24 percent of the men said they regretted their decision. More than 49 percent of the women and 37 percent of the men said they felt relief with their choice, and 24 percent of the women and 39 percent of the men felt indifferent about it.

"Reproductive health is basic human right,” said Dr. Jenni Skyler, resident sexologist at Adam & Eve. “It is encouraging that the number of abortions has been declining; however, it is essential that the right to make this very individual choice is legal and accessible to all. It is also important to recognize that making the choice to terminate a pregnancy is always difficult.

"The emotional result can vary from grief to relief. As we navigate the difficulties of abortion, I believe it is key to have both accurate information and counseling support during all parts of the process — before, during, and after."

“Adam & Eve’s annual sex survey gauges the changing sexual attitudes and values of American adults,” said Chad Davis, director of marketing for Adam & Eve.

The web-based survey, conducted by an independent third party survey company, of more than 1,000 American adults age 18 and up, was sponsored by Adam & Eve to study sexual preferences and practices.
