Evoluent's inventor, Jack Lo, first created the mouse in 1994, and its newest prototype was developed with assistance from the University of California at Berkeley.
The mouse stands vertically and allows the hand to rest stationary, completely off of the tabletop. Evoluent's website said users have commented that their wrist, arm and hand pain has been alleviated.
The VerticalMouse features five different buttons, utilizing the entire hand and meant to take the stress off of the one or two primary fingers used for ordinary mice. It comes with either a scrolling or tilting wheel, and certain buttons can be programmed to take place of certain keystrokes.
Tech review site CoolTechZone.com said the thumb button could perform the CTRL and ALT actions, an ideal feature for gamers.
The tech review also said that the VerticalMouse will do excessive clickers wonders, and that, though it felt awkward at first, it did not take reviewers' fingers long to adapt to the new buttons.
