Swedish news outlet The Local reported that prison authorities argued against the approval, citing porn as a security risk in prison facilities, and that viewing porn would inhibit the rehabilitation of jailed sex offenders.
The issue of inmates having access to pornographic materials was incited after the Swedish Prison and Probation Service banned a man serving a rape sentence from receiving pornographic material. In 2006 a Sundsvall, Sweden, appeals court ruled that the principle of freedom of information took precedence over the possible security threat to inmates, and the prisoner was allowed to keep his porn.
The Prison and Probation Service appealed the judgment, but the Supreme Court upheld its ruling as the final decision.
