SoundsDirty Makes Adult for the Visually Impaired

LONDON — Sexy adult content isn't limited to images alone, and a British web designer has launched "accessible to all" SoundsDirty.com, offering zoom-in photos and erotic audio — to name just a few features — resulting in the first adult website tailored for the visually impaired.

SoundsDirty.com CEO Lloyd Chambers told XBIZ that he developed the site with the understanding that the majority of websites, especially those in adult, don't make provisions for disabled users.

"The market is dominated by visual content to attract users to their sites, rendering their sites virtually useless for blind, partially sighted users or people with other disabilities," Chambers said. "SoundsDirty.com changes all that. We decided to build what was considered impossible by many — an accessible adult website."

Chambers said his site's content is produced in three formats: standard for unimpaired users, with subtitles for the deaf, and with audio description for the blind. He said a "sexy narrator" explains to blind users what is happening onscreen and ensures that they understand every sound heard.

Chambers said SoundsDirty also is tailored for impairments other than blindness. The site has functionality for color-blind users, changing font color and also enlarging text when needed. Users whose afflictions prevent them from using a mouse can navigate the site using their keyboards. The site's sounds are equipped with text alternatives for deaf users to assure they don't miss a beat.

The site also is compatible for screen-reader users, who are typically partially or completely blind, allowing them to listen to descriptions of each photo viewed online.

Chambers said he expects the site also to appeal to people who enjoy using their imaginations, as well as couples and women who enjoy being aroused by audible description, rather than visual imagery. He said all content on SoundsDirty.com can be downloaded to play on portable media players.

Trial memberships are available for $4.95, and $19.95 will give users complete site access. A free chat room is available to all.
