Ashley Manta Secures 'CannaSexual' Trademark

LOS ANGELES — Ashley Manta has announced the securing of a United States trademark for the term “CannaSexual,” which the sex positive, cannabis friendly, sexuality educator created to combine the fields of cannabis and sexual health.

“This trademark is groundbreaking and will hopefully pave the way for future growth in the adult and cannabis worlds,” said Manta. “It felt surreal to open an envelope from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and see my idea, my creation, listed on a page with an official seal. I could not be more thrilled that this idea I had to educate about sex and cannabis would blossom into a sustainable business.”

Manta notes that “a CannaSexual is anyone who mindfully, and deliberately, combines sex and cannabis to deepen intimacy and enhance pleasure whether solo or partnered,” and says she coined the term in 2014 while trying to find creative ways to make sex less painful and more enjoyable.

As a sexual trauma survivor, Manta experiences pain with penetration and found that using a THC-infused spray on her vulva before sex helped decrease discomfort and increase pleasure. That led her down the sex and cannabis rabbit hole where she’s now spoken at events and conferences across the country and has written or contributed to more than 100 articles on sex and cannabis in publications such has DOPE Magazine, Leafly, Sexual Health Magazine; and has been quoted in Teen Vogue, Redbook, Mashable, High Times, Vocativ, Refinery29, VICE and more.

“After spending time at ANME last month, I am more convinced than ever that both industries have a long and prosperous future of cross-pollination,” Manta explained. “I saw manufacturers showcasing their hemp CBD beauty and sexual wellness products right alongside online retailers and brick and mortar shops who carry smoke shop items like pipes and vaporizers in addition to toys and lube.”

“Sex and cannabis can pair so well together and I’m overjoyed to be at the forefront of the movement to promote education and mindful consumption as a CannaSexual,” Manta added. “I would also like to profusely thank my lawyer Steven M. Levy, Esq. of Accent Law Group for all of his hard work making this happen and helping me navigating the process.”

The CannaSexual brand will be on display at the Emerald Exchange in Malibu, Calif., August 12-13 from 2-5 p.m. with coupon code CANNASEXUAL good for 10 percent off. On August 26 from 1-5 p.m., Manta will be at “Constellations — Past, Present, Future” in Long Beach, Calif., offering mini-workshops and one-on-one consultations throughout the day.
