HarrietSugarcookie.com Addresses U.K. 'Porn Bill'

LONDON — Men's adult lifestyle website HarrietSugarcookie.com has been addressing the U.K's new Digital Economy Bill in a series of posts, examining the effects the government's proposed age verification regulations could have on adult sites.

In his Nov. 23 post “Why the U.K.'s Age Verification Laws are Good for HarrietSugarcookie.com,” The Cameraman gave some reasons why the law, if passed, could be good for business.

"This regulation increases the cost and complexity of launching an independent adult site… shutting out potential new rivals," The Cameraman said. "Age verification actually lowers our hosting costs… filtering (out) traffic that does not have the ability to pay, thus increasing our bottom line while someone else picks up the bill."

However, the site has also explained why the U.K.’s adult industry on the whole could suffer. Harriet Sugarcookie's Nov. 27 article “The U.K. Porn Ban: Goodbye Oral, Hello Orwell” said the Digital Economy Bill could lead to censorship.

"Now, they’ve set up even more ways of censoring material they deem inappropriate,” Sugarcookie wrote. “The new censorship is hidden within the new age verification law they will be implementing.”

HarrietSugarcookie.com founder and performer Harriet Sugarcookie will post more in-depth articles in the coming weeks about the selected clauses in the Digital Economy Bill and its progress through Parliament.
