S.F.'s Center for Sex & Culture Celebrates National Masturbation Month

SAN FRANCISCO — The Center for Sex & Culture is celebrating National Masturbation Month with two San Francisco events exploring solo sex in all of its many permutations.

A seminar, titled “I Touch Myself,” will kick off the self-pleasuring events series, along with the screening of a film documentary called “Sticky.”

With the “I Touch Myself” seminar, self-love enthusiasts Carol Queen and Magnus Sullivan, creator of the soon-to-launch men’s masturbation site BetterThanTheHand.com, will offer an illuminating discussion about masturbation from cultural issues to the whys and hows of autoerotic pleasure.

Queen is a member of the Masturbation Hall of Fame and co-creator of the movie “Carol Queen’s Great Vibrations: An Explicit Consumer Tour of Vibrators.” Sullivan is the creator of “Marriage 2.0,” the LionReach Productions film that was distributed by Adam & Eve and went on to receive four XBIZ Awards this year.

The documentary movie “Sticky” discusses candidly about what has been referred to throughout history as both a form of self-love and self-abuse. Writer/director Nicholas Tana interviewed more than 60 sexologists, authors, religious figures, porn stars and entertainers to understand what’s so wrong with masturbation.

Joani Blank, Queen, Dr. Robert Lawrence, MJ Ecker, Denise Acosta, Nicholas Tana will offer a Q&A panel after the screening of “Sticky.”

“I Touch Myself” will be held tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. (donations accepted). The “Sticky” screening and Q&A will take place Friday at 8 p.m. ($12; tickets available here). Both events will be held at the Center for Sex & Culture, 1349 Mission, San Francisco.
