Trademark Holders Now Can Register .porn, .adult Names

PALM BEACH, Fla. — ICM Registry, the operator of the .xxx top-level domain, today opened up new .porn and .adult registrations to trademark holders who are registered in the Trademark Clearinghouse (TMCH).

The sunrise period for those registrations goes on for 30 days.

Domain names are available on a first-come, first-serve basis to those with validated marks in the TMCH, said Stuart Lawley, chairman and CEO of ICM Registry. During the period the cost of registrations will be standard registration fees, and there will be no additional sunrise application fees.

Lawley noted that ICM Registry and the TMCH worked together to reduce the TMCH’s normal registration fees. Trademark holders looking to secure their marks in .porn and .adult can contact their registrar to find out how to participate, he said.

“’Porn’ is one of the most searched for terms on the Internet,” said Lawley, who noted that ICM Registry would be rolling out the .sex TLD in the fall. “The launch of .porn and .adult brings exciting opportunities for webmasters and brand creators.

“Securing brand identity in .porn and .adult is essential as these domains will achieve significant visibility. Participating in the TMCH sunrise period is the first opportunity to achieve that brand consistency in these new TLDs.”

After the TMCH Sunrise period has closed, the next phase of the .porn and .adult launch will include a Sunrise B period for .XXX Sunrise B applicants, open from April 6-30. This period gives trademark owners who participated in the .xxx Sunrise B Program a priority option to register those matching marks in .porn and .adult, before they become generally available.

Following these trademark-focused launch periods will be the Domain Matching Program from May 6-31.

The Domain Matching Program allows .xxx registrants to register available, directly matching second level names in .porn and .adult.

To participate in the .porn and .adult Domain Matching Program, a .XXX name must be registered by April 30.

General Availability for .porn and .adult will begin on June 4.

Trademark owners can check the status of their marks by visiting ICM Registry’s Domain Check Tool.
