'Adults Only IP' Legal Series Slated for February in L.A.

LOS ANGELES — The State Bar of California has announced a one-day continuing legal education series in February called "Adults Only IP," featuring some of the best-known adult entertainment attorneys speaking on their specialties in the field of intellectual property.

Attorneys Allan Gelbard, Greg Piccionelli, Anna Vradenburgh, Paul Cambria, Jeffrey Douglas and Michael Fattorosi — all of whom have adult industry clients — will be on hand for discussions over topics with witty titles such as "The Ethics and Morals of Representing Controversial Clients," "Getting Down and Dirty With the USPTO: IP for the Immoral and Scandalous," "Protecting Highly Infringed Content: Copyright and the Adult Industry" and "50 Shades of IP: Adult-Oriented Transformative Works."

Cambria will give the lunch keynote in a speech called "Having It All: Protecting Free Expression and IP Rights."

Gelbard told XBIZ that the lineup at "Adults Only IP" is unique and that there's a big interest in adult entertainment — even behind the scenes.

"I don't recall ever seeing a state bar do anything like this,' he said. "I did a CLE for the Encino Bar Association and was told I got the biggest turnout they ever had. I guess porn still sells somewhere."

The event is open to members of the State Bar, law students and those in nonprofit and government, costing between $100 to $395 for the event slated Feb. 24 between 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. at the Los Angeles Airport Marriott.

Attending attorneys can receive up to 7.5 hours of continuing legal education credit of which 1.25 hours applies to legal ethics.
