LOS ANGELES — Axel Braun took home the XBIZ Director of the Year trophy for the third time on Friday night at the 2014 XBIZ Awards at the historic Century Plaza Hotel.
“I am absolutely stoked," Braun said. “I’ve been working really hard for the past 24 years, and getting all this recognition is at the same time humbling and incredibly motivating. This award goes out to my amazing crew, especially my partner in crime, Eli Cross, and my fabulous costume designer, September Dawn, who is largely responsible for bringing my vision to the screen while constantly raising the bar for costuming in adult movies.”
During the gala event hosted by porn superstar Jenna Jameson, Braun also won Best Parody-Drama for "Superman vs. Spider-Man XXX: An Axel Braun Parody," along with Best Music for Adam & Eve’s "Grease XXX."
“I had a lot of fun bringing Seth Gamble and everybody else in the studio,” said Braun, who wrote, produced and arranged the "Grease XXX" tracks, “and even though I ultimately couldn’t shoot the movie, [Will Ryder] did a truly fantastic job with it and I’m just happy that my small contribution got recognized.”
Braun’s movies were also awarded for their strong sexual performances, with Ryan Driller and Kendall Karson winning Best Sex Scene for their steamy encounter as Superman and Zatanna in the "Man Of Steel XXX: An Axel Braun Parody," a Vivid Entertainment release.
“Right after we shot it Axel told me it was an amazing scene," Driller said. “And while having sex in 100-degree weather wearing spandex may not be the most comfortable experience, Kendall brought so much intensity that I could have kept going all day.”
Karson was equally enthused: “It was an honor to work with Axel, and I am so grateful for him casting me in the movie and giving me the opportunity to work on such an amazing project. Ryan was an absolute delight to perform with, and…I got to have sex with Superman, so I truly couldn’t be happier for this award!”
The director was also on stage, along with Wicked contract star Jessica Drake, to present awards for MILF Performer of the Year and Best New Starlet, respectively, to Julia Ann and Christy Mack, and participated on a panel at the XBIZ 360 conference.
“XBIZ 360 was a meticulously organized, lively gathering of the industry's who's who," Braun said. “The panel was extremely insightful, and overall an absolutely positive experience that I'm looking forward to repeating in the years to come.”
