HANOI — Police here have arrested the operators of Lauxanh.xxx for the act of "promoting pornographic products."
That website, along with the operators' Upanh.xxx and Gaichoi.xxx, were used as dating sites, primarily advertising prostitutes in Vietnam, according to a report.
Hanoi police accused Luong Van Toan, Phung Thanh Son and Hoang Van Huu of operating the websites, which all launched in April.
To attract visitors to Lauxanh.xxx, Huu allegedly appropriated porn pics and clips from other websites to post on the site, which had about 21,000 members, police say.
The business was lucrative for the trio, with banner ads selling for about VND500,000 ($25,000) a week. Prostitutes advertising services purchased spots for VND500,000-VND1 million ($25-100).
Pornography is illegal in Vietnam and enforcement against it has been known to be strict.
