Good Vibrations to Hold Amateur Erotic Film Competition

SAN FRANCISCO — Sex-positive product retailer Good Vibrations will give aspiring adult filmmakers the chance to make their big screen debuts in an amateur erotic film competition.

The First Annual Good Vibrations Amateur Erotic Film Competition will be held Oct. 26 at the Castro Theatre and on Oct. 27 at the Parkway Speakeasy Theatre in Oakland, Calif.

“Good Vibrations has been hosting erotica films and clips of significant porn in the bay area since 1998,” Good Vibrations President Theresa Sparks said. “Hosting an amateur erotic film competition is a natural next step for us, and San Francisco is a perfect environment for sex-positive erotica.”

Judging will be conducted by a panel that includes Jennifer Morris, director of programming at Frameline; Joy King of Wicked Pictures; Tim Gaskin, Producer of Out Spoken TV and Publisher of Benefit Magazine; Terrance Allen, President of the SF Entertainment Commission and Chairman of the SF Late Night Coalition; Annalee Newitz, contributing writer for the San Francisco Bay Guardian and contributing editor for Wired Magazine; and Dr. Carol Queen, Founder of the Center for Sex and Culture.

“We are very excited to debut the Amateur Erotic Film Competition in San Francisco,” Queen said. “It’s a wonderful way for people to express their sexuality publicly without requiring anyone to color within the lines of commercial porn. This should be the erotica of the future: creative individuals making the movies they want to see.”

Judging will be based on four parts: Cinematography, use of safe sex, creativity and plot.

The official sponsors of the Good Vibrations Amateur Erotic Film Competition are Queer Channel, East Bay Express, San Francisco Bay Guardian, Wicked Pictures and 7X7 Magazine.
