HAMPSHIRE, U.K. — A recent study by Juniper Research found that mobile porn subscriptions are increasing at such a rapid pace that they will generate at least $1 billion in revenue by 2015.
The impetus is the steady growth of the smartphone and tablet markets, in addition to ever-faster mobile data connections, the study reports.
Researchers and analysts backing the report point out that the mobile porn industry is still blunted by a lack of viable payment options, low-end smartphones and legal and social barriers.
North America and Western Europe, due to their more progressive social climates and access to advanced technology, are projected to account for over 70 percent of mobile adult revenues.
The firm also estimates that the number of people using adult video chat services will triple by 2015 and account for more than half of all mobile porn profits.
