LOS ANGELES — Roku today rolled out a new streaming-video box that includes a faster processor and dual-band Wi-Fi connectivity, as well as an updated user interface.
The new streaming-video box — Roku 3 — also includes private-listening mode using a new remote with jack and headphones.
All of the new features should help out porn consumers who are finding more adult entertainment choices and improving tools using Roku.
Scores of adult studios stream their content on Roku.
AEBN, CherrySauceTV, EroticVision TV, FyreTV, Helix Studios, Hotflix.tv, PinkTV, SCMDL (StraightCollegeMen.com), ScoreTV, SugarDVD and Vivid Entertainment each have their own channels on Roku.
The Roku 3 looks like existing Roku boxes with their glossy finishes and rounded edges, but its powerful chip inside makes the box five times faster than the Roku 2 XS, allowing for faster load time for channels and movies.
Connectivity also has been upgraded with dual-band Wi-Fi connectivity that helps for congested network areas.
And the new model also includes a pair of headphones for users to plug into the remote's headphone jack and listen to whatever's playing on Roku — a big help for those who watch porn discreetly.
The Roku 3 is available starting today for $99 at Roku's online store. Retail stores will start selling the new model in April.
