Kathy Griffin, Jay Leno Discuss The Pleasure Chest on ‘The Tonight Show’

LOS ANGELES — Kathy Griffin appeared on “The Tonight Show” recently, where the comedian discussed visiting The Pleasure Chest with her mother.

Griffin shared a clip from her Bravo show “Kathy,” in which the comedian tricked her mother Maggie into meeting her at the storied sex shop. The scene aired on Valentine’s Day and featured Griffin and her mother trying out whips, wearing leather animal masks and brandishing paddles.

The segment was the latest in a series of high profile media appearances for The Pleasure Chest, spurred by the sensation surrounding the “Fifty Shades of Grey” book series. Just a month ago, the Oprah Winfrey Network debuted the new season of “Our America with Lisa Ling” with a full hour devoted to the mainstreaming of kinky sex. The show included a visit to the Pleasure Chest and an insider look at a bondage and domination workshop. Later that month, TLC reality show “Starter Wives” included a segment at The Pleasure Chest’s New York store.

Kristen Tribby, The Pleasure Chest’s director of creative development and strategy said, “What we’re seeing with the popularity of ‘Fifty Shades’ is that kinky sex is coming out of the closet. We’ve already discovered this change with our customers, and we’re glad to see the popular culture catching up.”

Tribby says she anticipates more attention from the media as a Hollywood movie of “Fifty Shades of Grey” goes into production.

“From our perspective, this gives The Pleasure Chest an opportunity to educate curious adults about the safest and best ways to explore their fantasies,” Tribby said. “We’re particularly focused on finding the best items for people to fulfill their desires in a safe and fun way. We plan to use the increased exposure to highlight our favorite products and brands.”

Video clips from “Kathy” and “The Tonight Show” are available here.
