Report: Mobile Porn Revenue to Hit $1 Billion by 2015

HAMPSHIRE, England — A new report from Juniper Research predicts that mobile adult subscriptions will reach nearly $1 billion by 2015.

The study, titled “Mobile Adult Content: Trends, Drivers and Business Models 2012 – 2017” predicts that the lion’s share of the growth will come from smartphone and tablet users who access the Internet on quicker mobile data connections.

And North America and western Europe will account for more than 70 percent of porn viewing users.

According to the research firm, live video chat will triple by 2015 and will make up more than half of mobile content revenue.

"Mobile adult subscriptions will be a growing source of mobile adult revenues. Niche content has always been a driver of paid adult content and this is no less true on mobile. While there has been a proliferation of free content, it remains that case that for specialized content, users must continue to pay," the report's author Charlotte Miller said.

But it’s not all good news for porn.

Growth in new smartphone markets will be restricted because of a lack of viable payment options, and social and legal restrictions.
