Women's Group Protests College Porn Conference

BOSTON — Pro-porn feminists are staging an online protest ahead of a “Stop Porn Culture” conference at the Wheelock Boston College Campus scheduled for June 12.

BostonHerald reports that on one side is sex columnist Violet Blue. Her slogan, “Our Porn, Ourselves,” is a take-off on the feminist classic, “Our Bodies, Ourselves.” Blue is encouraging women to enter the “Our Porn, Ourselves” video contest to express themselves and win various prizes.

Blue’s manifesto declares, basically, that no woman should be told what to enjoy sexually and that pornography is empowering for the sexually liberated woman.

Her side also claims that one in three porn consumers is a woman.

On the other side is longtime anti-pornography crusader and Wheelock professor Gail Dines, the conference organizer. “This is not your father’s Playboy” she says.

Dines adds that women defending porn are likely deluded by the near trillion dollar industry.

Blue says that given the understandable interest in Stop Porn Culture’s campaign among right-wing and conservative groups, she says this is a great way of bringing some balance to the debate by inviting women (and all genders) to express their enjoyment and acceptance of porn through the video contest.
