‘Porndemic’ Takes Candid Look at Online Adult Industry

VANCOUVER, B.C. — A CBC documentary airing Thursday at 9 p.m. takes a candid look at the multibillion-dollar online adult industry and how it has helped catapult porn into the mainstream.

“Porndemic” starts out with a visit to Beverly Hills, Calif., where researchers meet with LFP founder Larry Flynt, who says that with the rise of the Internet he is able to reach more than six times the number of porn consumers.

The documentary continues to Porn Valley, formally known as Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley, to meet up with website entrepreneurs who own DungeonCorp.com.

Later, researchers chat it up with sex-tape broker and online adult marketer Kevin Blatt.

Canadian Broadcasting Corp. videographers also meet with PAK Group co-founder Jason Tucker, who discusses how the online adult industry created what is today the standard for mainstream online business models.

They meet with the operator of RedLightCenter, Brian Schuster, and Frederick Lane, author of “Obscene Profits.” Lane, in his book, chronicles the entrepreneurs of pornography in the cyber age.

But “Porndemic” also examines a dark side of the business — consumers who claim they are addicted to porn, including teenage cellphone users and an oil executive from Western Canada, who now belongs to Sex Addicts Anonymous.

“Porndemic” airs Thursday, April 2, at 9 p.m., on CBC-TV.
