Les Minets Sauvages
The films of Jean-Daniel Cadinot have influenced a horde of big-name directors in modern gay adult cinema, and this 1984 classic (a.k.a. “Wild and Crazy Boys and Tough and Tender”) shows why. While no subtitles are offered (and the audio track appears to be corrected in post-production, perhaps more currently with different voices), the fascinating story is pretty easy to follow. A young and meek street hustler (Didier Hamel) is taken to a secluded all-boys reform home, where he encounters a life even tougher than the streets thanks to bully (Luigi Di Como) and his four followers.

The gang wastes no time making the newbie’s life hell, highlighted by a dorm room gang rape. It’s one of many scenes propelled by aggression, with bad boy Vincent wasting no open hole. Hope for the young wayward hustler arrives in the form of a new inmate (Jean-Louis Vaissiere), a dark and handsome hunk who takes a different approach to his new peers — leading to an eventual clash. Running a compact 74 minutes — much of it filled with story and character development — the sex scenes here aren’t very long, but that doesn’t make them any less effective. Filled with deep fucks and some hot facials —and Cadinot’s outstanding sense of composition and raw sexuality — this is an essential addition to every library.

Synopsis:

Under a grey sky lies a remand centre for young offenders. In this closed world, eight wild youths with troubled pasts attract, confront and provoke each other. Eight young wild cats with violent sexual needs set up their own rule of law. The clan boss home in without pity on the new arrival and submits him to his rule. The dormitory, the boiler room, the workshop are all settings for punishments meted out to this easy prey. Jealousies, tensions and desires all explode with the arrival of a young lone-wolf. With an accomplice, he takes the young victim into his protection and puts and end to the reign of terror. But the chief warden, what is his part in this downfall? With Minets Sauvages, Cadinot succeeds in making a difficult study of morality and raises the flag of his work above all the rest.
