Q&A: Lola Rose Rules a United Queendom of Sex

Q&A: Lola Rose Rules a United Queendom of Sex

Five years ago, Lola Rose was studying journalism at a university and working part-time at a pub, when she happened upon a documentary about camming. It struck her as fun and since she always adored exploring her sexuality and talking about sex, it seemed like a great way to earn a bit of extra money.

After doing a lot of research, she began broadcasting on Chaturbate whenever her work or classes finished for the day. Soon she was making more money camming than from her part-time job. After a few months, Rose was able to quit working at the pub, giving her more time to focus on her education.

I used to think I had to do lots of different types of videos and fetishes to appeal to everyone, but now I’ve realized my fans just want me to film what I’m actually into.

At the time, she didn’t realize camming could be an actual career, so when she finished school, Rose kept applying for marketing jobs that she did not feel entirely enthusiastic about. In the meantime, she was still camming and uploading to ManyVids.

“As time when on, I put more and more effort into camming and less and less effort into searching for jobs,” Rose recalled. “Eventually, online sex work became my full-time job! When I joined OnlyFans a few years ago, I stopped camming, and my main focus became making clips.”

Rose can now deftly sift through analytics, and varies her content offerings between a cheaper OnlyFans account centered on PPV and a more expensive no-PPV subscription account where fans can enjoy a primo feed. She can whip up the sort of role-playing content and submissive videos her fans like best, then hop on Twitch for some more casual interactions. Rose prizes authenticity above all, because she knows her fans can tell when she’s genuinely having a good time.

XBIZ: Discuss your content-selling strategy on your no-PPV OnlyFans feed versus your lower-priced one.

ROSE: I put out the same videos across all my platforms, so the same video will get released as a PPV on my cheap OnlyFans, posted straight to my wall on my no-PPV, more expensive OnlyFans and uploaded to my ManyVids store for fans to download.

My lower-priced OnlyFans works more like a clip store, but with some extras, such as photos/teasers, messaging, live shows and weekly vlogs, all included in the $10 subscription price. You also have the option of unlocking full-length videos, paying for sexting and ordering custom content if you like.

My no-PPV page is $40 and has 100-plus full-length videos ready to watch on my wall, plus four new ones uploaded weekly. There are no photos or teasers, just full-length videos. My revenue on my no-PPV page just comes from subscriptions, but on my cheaper page I get money from subscriptions, live shows, tips, custom orders and PPVs.

Every time I send out a new PPV on my cheaper OnlyFans, I tell my fans that they could watch it for free on my no-PPV page if they subscribe there.

XBIZ: What kind of clips do fans enjoy the most on ManyVids, as far as content style, length, genres, etc.?

ROSE: On ManyVids, my fans love role-play, especially if it’s taboo, such as stepbro/sis, daddy, cheating on my husband, babysitters or anything to do with virginity. They also love my ass, so simple oiled-up dildo-riding and POV boy/girl reverse cowgirl clips sell really well for me too. I don’t think a specific length of video sells more than another for me; I think it depends how you price it. So a shorter video will be cheaper and sell just as many copies as a longer, more expensive clip.

XBIZ: Describe your social media strategy, blending authentic fan interaction with content marketing.

ROSE: I’ve noticed that my fans really like it when they get a “behind the scenes” look into my life.

I post mini vlogs on TikTok, which show me making content with people, going to get tested, editing content, going to the gym and doing normal day-to-day things like going shopping, and I think it really helps to show my personality while also subtly advertising my porn, but in an SFW way.

I try to do the same on Instagram stories, giving people a look into my life and also inviting them to ask questions; I try to answer them as honestly as I can. I think being yourself is the most important thing on social media and people really connect with that. It’s the best way to get subscribers that want to stick around.

Twitter is a lot more fun because I don’t have to be SFW. I can just tweet uncensored things about my life and fans love the midnight tweets about getting cum in my eye again. I also just post lots of pictures of my ass on there because it gets the best engagement.

XBIZ: What are the biggest ways you’ve evolved as a creator over the years?

ROSE: When I first started making content five years ago, I used my 720p webcam to record videos and didn’t even own a light. I had really messy backgrounds too! But now I know that lighting is the most important thing when filming. I also like to have good audio quality, so I like to upgrade my equipment regularly. But you don’t need loads of fancy equipment to make good content, just good lighting!

I used to think I had to do lots of different types of videos and fetishes to appeal to everyone, but now I’ve realized my fans just want me to film what I’m actually into. A video always looks better if I’m really enjoying myself!

For example, I know I’m not good at being dominant and I don’t like doing it, so I just avoid filming clips like that. Whenever I do upload dominant videos to my store, they don’t sell very well anyway, because my fans want the submissive, innocent girl-next-door.

It’s always important to check analytics and work from there, which is something I started doing recently, looking at what content sells best and coming up with content ideas from that. It doesn’t have to be a brand-new idea every time, either. Sometimes I’ll reshoot a video from five years ago because I know I can make better-quality videos now.

XBIZ: How would you define your brand when it comes to your personality and overall style?

ROSE: I always try to be myself and completely natural. I’m a nerdy, big-booty British girl-next-door, in real life and in porn! People always say I look innocent, so I think it’s fun to play that up in my content. And I’m completely submissive, so I mostly keep it that way in my porn too.

XBIZ: What do you like to do for fun when you’re not working?

ROSE: I love working and always find it hard to take time off. Spending a day shooting content doesn’t always feel like work when you’re working with someone you have good chemistry with! But I like going to the gym. I find that it really helps my mental health as well as my physical health, of course. I love playing video games on Twitch with my fans after a day of making content or editing. It’s nice to catch up with them in a chill environment and just relax. We can talk about anything from porn to new TV shows we’re watching. I love having fans that I can just chat to about anything, both sexual and nonsexual.

XBIZ: Are there any other creators you draw inspiration from?

ROSE: The main people who inspire me are people that I’ve worked with and become really good friends with. I love Peachy Skye’s content. Her quality is amazing and I love her unique taboo storylines, and I know she puts a lot of effort into her videos. Also, Persephone Pink because she gets the best butt angles I have ever seen, and has amazing quality videos as well. I also love working with Lana Wolf as we come up with really good roleplay scenarios together that we act out in a realistic way to make them seem as natural as possible. I also really admire Scarlett Jones and how she went from camming and making clips to being one of the best upcoming mainstream porn stars of 2022; I think she has an amazing work ethic.

XBIZ: What was it like winning Clip Artist of the Year at the 2022 XBIZ Europa Awards?

ROSE: I was really shocked when I won, especially against some really amazing creators! I never thought five years ago when I started camming from my tiny bedroom in my shared uni house that I would be winning awards one day. I also wouldn’t have been able to do it without the support of my friends, family and amazing fiancé who encourages me every single day.

XBIZ: Share your career goals for the rest of 2022 and beyond.

ROSE: I want to keep growing my platforms and continue to make content that not only appeals to my fans, but is content that I’m proud of. I want to keep trying new things and explore new fetishes and kinks with my fans too. I would love to branch out further into mainstream porn, I’ve had three professional scenes come out this year and would love to do more. I love working with professional companies, meeting new people and learning more about creating high-quality content from big studios and implementing those ideas in my own work. I would also love to travel more and shoot content with people from all over the world!
