T-Mobile to Unveil 1st Google Phone on Sept. 23

NEW YORK — The Big Apple will be the first to see Google's next big thing.

T-Mobile will unveil the first Google phone at a press conference in New York on Sept. 23.

Although T-Mobile will be the first major mobile carrier to market the phone, manufacturing duties will fall to a company called High Tech Computer, or HTC.

The new phone probably won't hit store shelves until October 20, but online reports suggest that the new phone will be called the Dream ofr the G1. T-Mobile is expected to reveal how much the phone will cost, as well as its major features.

According to the tech blog CrunchGear.com, the new Google phone will be available in three different colors: black, white and brown.

The phone will include a touch screen, wi-fi compatibility, a BlackBerry-style mouseball, a full Web browser like the iPhone's Safari, as well as other signature Google applications like Gmail, Chrome, Google Maps and YouTube.

In anticipation of the product launch, and in response to the success of Apple's App Store, Google has already unveiled a software development kit for the Android platform.

The software development kit is in a beta release. Enterprising webmasters who want to try their hand at developing applications for the Android platform should be aware that there are still a lot of bugs.
