The documentary examines the production, politics and cultural impact of the 1972 adult film “Deep Throat,” which starred Linda Lovelace and Harry Reems and was banned in 23 states and became an explicit target of the Nixon administration.
“Deep Throat” was the first sexually explicit film to cross over to mainstream audiences and helped launch a sexual revolution as well as igniting a conservative moral backlash.
The “Inside Deep Throat” DVD, with a $27.98 retail sticker, includes added features focusing on obscenity issues, including the Binghamton, N.Y., trial, which deemed “Deep Throat” not obscene.
It also includes a piece on a district attorney and his wife, who recount a trial in which the jury ventured to the Pussycat Theater in West Hollywood, Calif., for a screening.
The NC-17 version includes an interview with porn stars Xaviera Hollander and Marilyn Chambers, who discuss the art of performing deep throat as well as an interview with Ray Pistol, who later acquired the rights to the film.
The “Inside Deep Throat” DVD debuts Sept. 20.
