Playboy, Smash Capitalize on ‘Housewives’ Phenomena

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — This fall, Playboy will release “Playboy’s Hottest Housewives,” a DVD that features 12 real-life homemakers who are anything but desperate.

The video journal, scheduled for Sept. 20 release, features footage from individual Playboy Magazine photo shoots for a May Playboy Magazine pictorial called "Real-life Desperate Housewives."

The DVD, which is being is distributed exclusively by Image Entertainment, also includes two unpublished bonus “Housewife” photo shoots, as well as behind-the-scenes video and a nude photo gallery.

When Playboy issued the call for submissions to participate in its "Real-life Desperate Housewives" pictorial, the response was overwhelming, according to company spokesperson Matt Kalinowski.

Nearly 1,000 women ranging in age from 18 to 60 years old submitted their photos, and Playboy selected the 12 candidates spanning multiple states and ages to appear in print. Some were married, some divorced, some single, but all had children.

"The percentage of quality candidates for this search is the best I've seen I my 14 years here," Senior Photography Editor Kevin Kuster said. "The top reason given for applying was, 'When I was younger, I could have been a Playmate. Now I'm not going to miss my chance.'"

While the Playboy DVD is a softcore, reality-based offering, Smash Pictures is releasing a hardcore spoof of the pop-culture fad titled “Cheating Housewives.”

Director Mike Metropolis was at the helm on the feature, which combines all the backstabbing drama of the hit TV show with explicit sex and satire.

“We wanted to show what really goes on and what the TV show leaves out,” Smash Pictures Vice President Stuart Wall said.

In “Cheating Housewives,” each female character has her own dilemma that drives her into the arms of a man other than her husband. The adultery-ridden movie stars “Temptress” Vicky Vette, “Bitch” Cherie, “Flirt” Rayveness, “Whore” Roxanne Hall, and “Seductress” Chelsea Zinn.

“This was a really fun movie to shoot and I loved the sex I had here,” Vette said.

“Cheating Housewives” is in stores now.
