Time Sees Porn on iPhone's Horizon

NEW YORK — Mainstream newsmagazine Time has reported that the technological advances of Apple's newly-announced 2nd-generation iPhone may make it an excellent vehicle for delivery of porn direct to consumers.

Although porn delivered to cell phones is currently primarily static images, text messages and sexy ring tones, the iPhone's fast web browsing and playback, large screen, and ease of use can facilitate the delivery of film clips directly to the iPhone's Safari browser.

Further, Time reports, direct web access from the iPhone will allow users to access any web content without requiring approval of the telephone service provider.

Mark Kirstein, president of mobile-research firm Multimedia Intelligence cited Canada's Telus, a telecom that canceled an experimental adult-content offer after religious groups complained in February 2007.

"The iPhone becomes a portal where people can get to content directly without worrying about the social mores of the network operator," Kiersten said.

Apple says that more than 250,000 iPhone programming kits have been downloaded, enabling programmers to create their own iPhone applications. The new iPhone will be available in at least 75 countries.
