Digital Playground Commits to Simultaneous Blu-ray, Standard DVD Releases

VAN NUYS, Calif. — Digital Playground has announced that it will be simultaneously releasing all new titles in both Blu-ray and standard definition effective immediately.

Digital Playground is the adult entertainment industry’s leader in Blu-ray production with 21 titles on the market as of this week. The first of the company’s titles to enjoy simultaneous release was the Robby D blockbuster, “Cheerleaders.”

“At Digital Playground, we continue to implement the latest technological advances in our production methods and the distribution of our quality movies,” company founder Joone said. “We committed ourselves to the high definition format over four years ago and we continue to prove our foresight with our extensive Blu-ray library.”

According to Digital Playground publicist Adella the simultaneous, dual-format, day-and-date release eliminates the waiting game customers experience when seeking to purchase a title on Blu-ray that’s already been available on standard definition.

“The fourth quarter of 2008 is going to be huge for Blu-ray sales,” Digital Playground CEO Samantha Lewis said. “Technology industry sources predict Blu-ray players to drop in price by $100. Many people will receive their first Blu-ray player during the holiday season, and then will rush out to buy any title they can get their hands on. Our goal is to make sure that all of our titles are readily available for purchase.”

Digital Playground’s roots as a technology-driven company have long been established. The company boasts the largest adult HD library and has trademarked its “Virtual Sex” line, which launched in 1997. In 2004, the company released “Island Fever 3,” the first adult title to be filmed, edited and delivered in HD. Then in 2005, Digital Playground released the first adult iPod trailers, followed by the first adult movies for purchase on the iPhone in 2007.
