Good Vibrations Presents ‘Beyond Boogie Nights’

SAN FRANCISCO — Good Vibrations will present a special midnight screening of “Beyond Boogie Nights,” a collection of clips and scenes from ‘70s adult cinema on June 13 at the Coolidge Corner Theatre in Brookline, Mass.

Curator Dr. Carol Queen will lecture on the history of porn before the film. In addition to being Good Vibrations’ staff sexologist and founding director of the Center for Sex and Culture, Queen also is an award-winning author, educator and activist, featured in magazines, television and documentaries.

“Older porn is my favorite kind,” Queen said. “It hails from ‘the Golden Age of the blue movie,’ when directors and performers thought cultural changes were opening up the film medium in an explicit direction, and so plots and performances are more substantial in ‘70s movies than most made since then. Also, bodies look somewhat more natural and diverse, and much of it has that ‘sexual revolution’ glow you just don't see any more. It’s fun, often funny, sexy, plus it's a trip back in time.”

Box office tickets are $12 on the evening of the show, but advance tickets are available for $10 from the Good Vibrations store located at 308-A Harvard St., facing the Center Street parking lot. The Coolidge Corner Theatre is located at 290 Harvard St. in Brookline, Mass. Call (617) 264-4400 for more information.

Good Vibrations also will host an in-store pre-party, staying open late until 11:30 p.m. The free event starts at 9 p.m. and includes a DJ as well as food and drink, plus prizes. Revelers are entitled to a 15 percent discount on all merchandise throughout the evening.
