“We’ve done as well as we could ever have expected in the world of adult and will continue to participate there, but the opportunity to increase our scope and also our content repertoire and to take advantage of the unique set of skills we have as a team make this a very calculated decision on our part,” Kenney said.
The company will host a booth at MIPTV , also known as the Content Market of Interactive Media, to be held in Cannes from April 7-11 in an effort to introduce the company to networks, distributors and other buyers.
“We’ve been leaning in this direction at least in thought for some time now and with the current climate in adult being what it is, we decided to jump right into this and our next stop is in France,” Kenney said.
The move comes after the back-to-back success of SexZ’s blockbuster releases: “Corruption” in 2006 and sci-fi thriller “Upload” in 2007. Both movies established the company as a producer of major, big-budget adult features, with director Eli Cross at the helm.
The award-winning titles also elevated the careers of leading female performers Hillary Scott for her role in “Corruption,” and Eva Angelina as Det. Cassandra Cray in “Upload.” Both starlets will accompany Kenney on the trip to France.
Kenney noted the transitional trends in adult for influencing the company’s decision to branch out into mainstream productions.
“We are living in challenging times as an industry but while exciting to some, the playing field is no longer level for others including some of the best content creators. We feel that the time is perfect for us to challenge ourselves with a new list of adventures that we think will provide greater rewards,” Kenney said.
The MIPTV convention is expected to draw 13,000 industry professionals. Representatives from SexZ Pictures will be available at Booth 06.23.
In a side note, Kenney also said that the company is seeking a new contract star to fill the slot left open by former contract performer Paulina James, who is taking a yearlong hiatus due to pregnancy.
