Stockroom CEO Praises BDSM Sex At Yale Sex Week

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Stockroom.com CEO Joel Tucker praised the practitioners of fetish and BDSM sex in a series of interviews he gave during a weeklong sex festival at Yale University.

Tucker, who founded the sex toy store Stockroom.com, said that a "surprisingly high percentage" of BDSM fans are very intelligent.

"They also tend to be surprisingly nerdy sometimes," he said. "They might be people that are also into sci-fi and Renaissance Faires. I think it is an interest that flourishes in an intelligent and imaginative mind, combined with a strong sex drive.”

Continuing with the idea that BDSM attracts high-powered imaginations, Tucker said that people who like to role-play naturally gravitate toward more fetish-based sex.

"If you think about it, it makes sex a richer and more complex experience with a lot more places to go, with a lot more destinations," he said. "Once you start, you are involved in these power dynamics and lots of different situations which may or may not include pain, and playing with the limits of the human body and involving lots of technology, gear and products. For the person that just wants to get in bed and go to sleep, this might have less appeal."

Tucker spoke as a part of last month's Sex Week at Yale, which brought together sex educators, doctors and adult industry professionals to discuss sex and sexuality.
