Woodman Partners with GBD for IPTV

BRIGHTON, U.K. —European production company Woodman Entertainment has announced a partnership with U.K.-based IPTV provider Global Digital Broadcast (GDB) to launch the Woodman Entertainment channel.

The deal completes the GDB Top 20 roster of adult channels, in addition to the network’s mainstream content.

Through Global Digital Broadcast’s PlayTV-UK IP “Adult Zone” set-top box service, consumers can view the network’s adult content on their televisions, as well as online at Woodman Entertainment’s own website or on the GoUK TV adult portal.

Content can also be accessed by any other form of compatible media (such as a mobile telephone, or gaming console).

"I am delighted to announce this partnership with Global Digital Broadcast,” Woodman founder Pierre Woodman said. “Distributing our content through their IPTV platform will enable us to reach their huge customer base and take our movies to an even wider audience. Now we have our DVD distribution network established, we are focusing on expanding digital distribution that we expect to contribute substantially to revenues by the end of 2008. We firmly believe in digital distribution and are pleased to be joining forces with one of the leading forces in global IPTV."

Founded in 2007 by Pierre Woodman, the Barcelona-based company has produced several award-winning titles including last year’s blockbuster “Excalibur,” as well as seven studio lines that include the flagship Premium series of blockbuster releases, the SeXXXotica series and Sex Carnage, among others. Woodman is known for his use of high-end performers, lush foreign locations and story-driven format, in hardcore and softcore titles.

In addition to Woodman’s own work, the company has several lines directed by David Perry with his Anal Gate line, as well as Philippe Soine’s Games of Perversion series.

Woodman Entertainment joins the ranks of several other adult channels that have recently launched on the GDB network, including U.K.-based Wrist Action TV, Scandinavian Adult TV and TVPolari, which features the work of Europe’s largest gay video producer Eurocreme.

“People now see that IPTV is the way forward and that is especially true of the adult industry,” Global Digital co-founder and director Jim Deans said.

“Traditional DVD production and distribution is, in fact, slowing down,” Deans added. “I like to think of a company in the adult industry as a thoroughbred racehorse and if that racehorse has started to go lame, the more you ride it the worse it gets. You cannot sell it, because who wants a horse with a bad leg — so you keep riding it until IPTV comes along with a new delivery method to distribute your content straight to the consumers home, in a fast and very cost effective way. Now your horse has bionic back legs and that puts it ahead in the race again.”

Deans will be at the International Erotica Festival in Brussels on Feb 15-16. To make an appointment with him or for more information about GDB IPTV network, email jules@gdbtv.com.
