Defiance Films may be one of the newest studios in town, but it’s a joint venture of three industry veterans, former Metro Vice President Anthony Simone, former Metro Interactive production manager and webmaster Keith O’Connor and Matrix Content President Norman Bentley.
According to Simone, the company will concentrate efforts on gonzo and its kissing cousin, theme-driven wall-to-wall titles. He said the company chose to lead off with “Pleasure” because it represents the high-end, hard-sex work it hopes will becomes a hallmark of all its titles.
“It was our first really high-budget title,” Simone said. “The cast list is unbelievable, and there’s a great four-way girl scene Monica Sweetheart, Rita Faltoyano, Paola Rey and Monica Mayhem that turned out perfect.”
O’Connor added, “If you look at ‘Pleasure,’ it’s like Vivid meets Red Light District. It has high-end production values but very hardcore sex. We filmed it at a mansion in Beverly Hills and had a great crew, and the cast was A-list all the way.”
“Instead of one solid scene and four mediocre scenes, we want to make every scene a standout, and we’re not sparing any expenses. We build all the scenes and give our directors the tools; all we need from them is to get the best energy from the performances.”
Shy Love recently directed a film for Defiance Films, and O’Connor said the company also is talking to Eric Hunter and Lauren Phoenix about shooting for them.
“We’re experimenting with directors right now,” O’Connor said. “We’re choosing people who’ve done work we like. We saw some stuff Shy Love shot for Full Throttle and thought she’d be a good fit for what we’re trying to do. It was a great decision because she got a lot of energy out of the girls. She would strip down and walk around butt naked and really get the girls into the scenes.”
Love also recently wrapped filming on “Justine’s Red Letter,” which features Justine Jolie acting out requests from actual fan mail.
Defiance Films’ website is live, with trailers and photo galleries from the company’s first few films, and O’Connor said they also expect to sell content to adult paysites.
“When we’re shooting the videos, we’re getting 300 to 400 stills per scene, including about 150 ‘pretty girl’shots,” he said.
