Joanna Angel to Speak at Alt-Film Fest Panel Friday

LOS ANGELES — Performer/director Joanna Angel will be among the speakers at a panel discussion about alternative filmmaking sponsored by Alt-Film Fest.com Friday night. Alt-Film Fest.com calls itself "the brand-spunkin'-new home of alternative filmmaking," and focuses on indie films, cult movies, midnight movies, smut, grindhouse, mumblecore, alt-porn, transgressive cinema and underground film.

"I'm proud to be the only person from the adult industry represented on this panel," Angel told XBIZ. "I don't know what the crowd's going to be like, so I'm not sure what I'm going to say. I'll just talk about what I do, and I hope people enjoy it.

Angel, who has directed and performed in adult videos for VCA and her own company, Burning Angel Entertainment, was the official spokesperson of the Los Angeles Erotica Film Fest earlier this year. Her mainstream appearances include The New York Times, Esquire Magazine, and she has written a sex-advice column for Spin Magazine and a chapter for the book "Naked Ambition: Women Pornographers and How They Are Changing the Sex Industry."

Other filmmakers in the panel include Robert Greenwald ("Outfoxed," "Iraq For Sale: The War Profiteers") James Spooner ("Afro-punk"), Esther Bell ("Exist"), Matt Pizzolo ("Threat"), and Curt Johnson ("Your Mommy Kills Animals").

The discussion will be held Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Borders Books, located at 1360 Westwood Blvd. in Los Angeles.
