Adam & Eve Sponsors, Builds Habitat for Humanity House

HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. — Online and mail order retailer Adam & Eve has sponsored a Habitat for Humanity home near the company's hometown of Hillsborough, N.C.

Work on the home began in March, when Adam & Eve parent company PHE Inc. agreed to sponsor one of the local homes being constructed by Habitat for Humanity.

"The home is a part of 18 lots that Habitat is building in the Fairview community," Adam & Eve Director of Marketing Chad Davis said of the community near Hillsborough. "This new community is part of a larger effort to revitalize the Fairview area by creating affordable homes and more opportunities for residents to take control of their neighborhood and work together."

For more than four months, Adam & Eve volunteers worked in four-hour shifts to help build the house, which will be purchased by a family of six from Chapel Hill, N.C., who had been living in a three-bedroom apartment. p> Adam & Eve has a long history of public service. The company's employees have organized a committee that promotes public service projects — like the Habitat for Humanity effort — and the company itself regularly donates to local charities, schools, community groups and animal shelters, as well as the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Relay for Life, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, the Red Cross, and the Special Olympics.

Adam & Eve also supports international charitable organizations including DKT International, which supports family health, family planning and HIV/AIDS prevention programs in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

In October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Adam & Eve set up a page of items on their retail website and donated a portion of the proceeds from sales of those items to breast cancer programs.

The Hillsborough-Orange County Chamber of Commerce has named Adam & Eve's parent company, PHE, Business of the Year partly for its outstanding corporate citizenship and community outreach programs.
