‘Men of Micky’s’ Calendar Benefits Displaced Employees

WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — The bartending staff of gay nightclub Micky’s is featured in “The Men of Micky’s” 2008 calendar. Proceeds from the calendar will go to benefit the staff of Micky’s who lost their jobs due to a fire that closed the club in August.

“The main guys that are in it are the bartenders,” gay industry agent/promoter David Forest told XBIZ. “These guys lost their jobs, and [Micky's is] not going to reopen until April or May, so they did this calendar and really rushed to get it out, and everybody pitched in, and now it’s on sale. I’m sure the printing was done at a very low cost, if not donated — so aside from the raw cost of making this thing, the rest of the money goes to the staff.”

Located at 8857 Santa Monica Blvd. in West Hollywood, Calif., Micky’s was a popular community-gathering place, as well as a venue for many adult industry events, including the well-known Thursday night “Cocktails With the Stars.”

“It was a real community venue and a very relaxed atmosphere,” Forest said.

The club is currently under reconstruction and anticipates re-opening by June.

The calendar, which retails for $20, is available at several Los Angeles adult retail locations, including both Drake’s stores, Video West, Unicorn Books, Dorothy’s Surrender and the Pleasure Chest.
