Karch Opens Distribution Company Pacific Coast

CHATSWORTH, Calif. — Empire Video Distributors President Roy Karch has formed new wholesale distribution company Pacific Coast Inc.

Pacific Coast can handle all aspects of wholesale DVD distribution, including warehousing, sales, invoicing, shipping and collections.

"Empire Video Distributors is a one-stop distributor that buys from the manufacturers and connects them to the retailer," Karch told XBIZ. "Pacific Coast Inc. is a manufacturer's rep — or wholesaler — selling to companies like Empire and larger chains. Pacific Coast will only handle those manufacturers who give us an exclusive. Empire is a one-stop for everyone."

"Manufacturers came to me and said I should do this, and I said 'No, that's not what we do here.' Then I decided that maybe it's what we should do. With the way things are changing, people need to cut their overhead, they need to get control of things."

Industry veteran Craig Jelin is Pacific Coast's vice president and general manager. Jelin has 18 years of adult experience, including more than a decade with LFP distributing, where he served as national marketing director.

Jolen was promoted in 1999 to director of sales for Hustler Video where he was responsible for all facets of wholesale video distribution and sales. Most recently Jelin was vice president of sales and marketing for Pure Play Media, overseeing distribution of product from studios including Private, Score, Naughty America and Swank.

Ed Kail also has joined Pacific Coast as national sales manager. Kail began his career at Caballero, spent more than 20 years at VCA, and has also sold for such companies as Elegant Angel and Devil's Films.

"Ed is one of the great characters and great salesmen in porn and we're fortunate to have him on the team," Karch said.

Kail's most recent job was as national sales manager for DVSX and XCartel, two lines that PCI will now represent.

Other studios signing on with Pacific Coast include No Limit, a new gonzo company; Spitfire, a new fetish line; and Kimberly West Productions, with high-definition girl/girl releases featuring starlets including Penny Flame, Tiffany Sweet, Roma and Hollie.

"My goal, really, is to handle as many revenue streams for my companies as possible," Karch said. "If I can make them more money, I'll make them more money. Foreign and domestic DVD, and whatever else we can do."

Pacific Coast Inc. can be reached at (818) 407-0696. Email Craig Jelin at craig@pcoastinc.com and Ed Kail at ed@pcoastinc.com.
