8th Annual Cybersocket Awards Coincide With XBIZ Hollywood

LOS ANGELES — Gay online publication Cybersocket will recognize the best in gay adult online companies at their 8th Annual Cybersocket Web Awards. The event will coincide with the XBIZ Hollywood ’08 Conference and XBIZ Awards, to be held Feb. 6-8 at the Roosevelt Hotel, located in Hollywood.

The exact date and location for the Cybersocket Web Awards have yet to be announced.

XBIZ will host its 5th annual XBIZ Awards show on Feb. 8 at the Highlands, located in Hollywood, next to Grumman’s Chinese Theatre on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

While still in the planning stages, Cybersocket General Manager of Special Events Michelle Aragon told XBIZ that it makes perfect sense for the Cybersocket Awards to be held alongside the XBIZ events, drawing the entire adult online community to the hub of Los Angeles.

“I think it’s going to be great and we’re looking forward to working with XBIZ,” Aragon said. “By being held in conjunction with the XBIZ Awards, it’ll bring more than just the gay webmasters. It’s going to bring everybody together and give them a chance to expand their business relationships, so that we can think of everybody as one industry and no longer have to separate the communities.”

The Cybersocket Web Awards are presented to companies that have been nominated and voted on by both web users and industry peers in 40 categories.

“These sites actually get nominated by the surfers and the webmasters, so these are true industry awards because it actually does focus on the online community,” Aragon said.

Nominations for the upcoming awards are open until Oct. 12, with nominees posted on the award’s site on Oct. 31. Online voting will then take place from Nov. 1-Dec. 31.

Past Cybersocket Web Awards shows have included various entertainers from the GLBT community including Chi Chi LaRue, drag performers and comedians.

“We’re confident that the night is going to be a memorable evening,” Aragon said.

The XBIZ Hollywood Conference will include workshops and seminars, special showcases and networking sessions.

The XBIZ Industry Awards are nominated online and then judged by a panel of industry peers.
