Ryan Idol to Appear in ‘The Ritz’ on Broadway

NEW YORK — Former gay adult performer Ryan Idol will appear in a revival production of Terrance McNally’s “The Ritz” by the Roundabout Theatre Company on Broadway.

Mainstream Rosie Perez and Kevin Chamberlin star in the production. Perez will play Googie Gomez, an entertainer in the bathhouse.

First seen on Broadway in 1975, the play is about a man hiding out from the Mob in a gay bathhouse.

Idol, aka Marc Anthony Donais, will play the role of one of the bathhouse patrons.

A former Playgirl centerfold, Idol was a popular adult performer during the 1990s and starred in several gay and bisexual titles, including “The Road Home” from Hot House Video, “Idol Eyes” from Falcon Studios and “Idol in the Sky” from Odyssey Men Video. In 1995, Idol won an AVN Award for Best Male Performer in a Gay Video, for his work in “Idol Country” released by HIS Video and directed by Chi Chi La Rue.

Idol also has appeared onstage as a replacement star of the off-Broadway comedy “Making Porn,” with subsequent performances in San Francisco, Miami, San Diego, Seattle, Austin and Toronto.

In March 1998, Idol suffered life-threatening injuries when he fell from a fourth-floor balcony in New York City. Inspired by his near-death experiences, Idol has developed a one-man play called “My Messy Bedroom: Anatomy of an Idol,” which he plans to debut in fall 2007.

Terrance McNally’s “The Ritz” opens on Oct. 11 at Roundabout’s Studio 54.
