Lucas Kazan Partners With Maleflixxx to Launch VOD Site

TORONTO — Gay studio Lucas Kazan Productions has partnered with distribution provider Maleflixxx to launch a new video-on-demand theatre featuring exclusive LKP clips and full-length features, as well as content from other studios on the Maleflixxx network.

The pay-per-view theatre is integrated into the newly revamped LucasKazan.com paysite, but non-members also can go to LucasKazanTV.com to access the live, streaming content on a pay-per-view basis.

“With the recent redesign of LucasKazan.com, we felt we needed to add a pay-per-view theater and broaden our online offering. Maleflixxx was the natural choice for this addition,” LKP founder Lucas Kazan said. “Our relationship with Maleflixxx spans nearly six years now. We’re excited at this new chapter and trust it will open new opportunities.”

In 2001, LKP was one of the first three studios to sign on with the newly founded Maleflixxx network and continues an exclusive partnership with the company.

“It’s really exciting,” Sureflixxx product-marketing manager Mary Gillis said. “He has a great business set up, he has a fantastic webmaster on board and the timing was right to add this theatre. The new LucasKazan.com is absolutely beautiful, so were just thrilled to be able to add the video-on-demand feature to this new venture.”

Known for high production values, lush Mediterranean locations and Euro-style models, LKP has a large catalog of DVD titles that include “American Holidays,” “Mykonos,” “L’Elisir D’Amore” and their latest release “The School for Lovers.”

With the redo of the LKP paysite, Gillis pointed out that adding a digital distribution platform was a logical next step for the studio. According to Gillis, VOD is the wave of the future for DVD production companies.

“DVD is slowly declining and in order to be in the best position possible for this decline, you have to make the transition online,” Gillis said.

“So, companies like Lucas Kazan — his DVDs are not going to disappear overnight — but by building a better website and adding a video-on-demand component, he is positioning himself strategically so that when his DVD sales do decline and they’re no longer supporting his business venture, his video-on-demand sales will be high enough to replace that revenue completely. That’s going to be key with hard-copy markets declining; the next trends are all digital,” she said.

Maleflixxx, which is operated by parent company Sureflixx Digital Distribution, is a gay distribution network with more than 200 studios on their roster. Maleflixxx is the exclusive distributor for 60 of those studios, and 40 studios feature VOD theatres.

“The beauty of the theatres is that it helps all the studios to reach a wider audience by these video-dement-theatres,” Gillis said. “Every single studio on the Maleflixxx network will benefit from this partnership. More than that, it really does help the individual studio build their brand, create new revenue streams and this is what it’s all about. We love what we do, but we love it to make money.”
