Playboy Inks Deal With Mainline Releasing

LOS ANGELES – Playboy announced plans Tuesday to produce 10 erotic thrillers in 2005 with Santa Monica-based Mainline Releasing, a subsidiary of MRG Entertainment. Mainline also produces family dramas, children’s fare and horror films.

Playboy will have creative control of the titles, which the company’s president of programming, Ned Nalle, said will feature recurring characters that run through several of the films.

Mainline sells soft adult content to Cinemax and In-Demand, co-founder Marc Greenberg told XBiz, and will retain the North American rights to its co-productions with Playboy. Playboy keeps international rights for television, home video and Internet. Playboy also controls mobile rights.

The deal increases Playboy’s 750 hours of programming, as well as Mainline’s domestic output of 300 hours. Playboy also produces “Sexcetera,” “World of Playboy” and “Sexy Girls Next Door.”

“We intend to remain the leader in our category for made-for-TV movies," said Nalle.
