Ben Jakks Named 2005’s NakedSwordsman

SAN FRANCISCO — NakedSword has crowned British Titan Man Ben Jakks as its 2005 NakedSwordman following a long process that involved voter participation, a variety of write-in essays and heated internal debate among the Nakedsword staff, the company said Tuesday.

The six-foot, brown-haired star takes the title of NakedSwordsman from 2004 winner Marcus Iron and will receive his own unique bladed weapon as part of the prize.

“Ben Jakks is a relentlessly modern, multifaceted gay video star who has demonstrated his dedication to both craft and community,” said Tim Valenti, president of NakedSword.com. “We’re extremely proud to have Jakks as our Nakedswordsman.

Born in Brazil and raised in London, Jakks originally worked under the name Bastian Eade before going to work for Titan Media in 2002.

While NakedSword said that Jakks’ good looks certainly didn’t hurt him in the selection process, it ultimately came down to the broad variety of films that he has appeared in, ranging from Bruce La Bruce artcore like “Skin Gang” to 2005 blockbuster “Fallen Angel 5: Horse,” and his involvement in HIV prevention and awareness.

In the past, Jakks has waved his modeling fees in order to participate in Titan Media-sponsored HIV awareness campaigns.

This year’s NakedSwordsman selection process was more widespread than in 2004 and involved a variety selection criteria, including staff opinion, online popularity and even 150-word fan essays.

“We sort of threw it out there as a lark,” GayPornBlog.com editor Michael Stabile told XBiz. “The fans are writing not only intelligent essays, but also very energetic ones as well.”

Jakks took the reins from May’s NakedSword Dream Team member Adam Dexter and former Pentecostal minister Diego De La Hoya, who both held early leads when the contest began in December.
