Playboy Unit to Buy Snowboard Business

CHICAGO — Playboy Enterprises plans to expand into the snowboard equipment business.

Earlier this month, its Lifestyle Brands division agreed to spend $2.5 million to buy Huffy Corp.'s snowboard business.

Miamisburg, Ohio-based Huffy reported the proposed sale and identified the buyer in an 8-K form filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Huffy is seeking approval from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the sale, which includes the trademarks, patents and other intangible assets of the snowboard business, which includes brands such as Lamar and LTD.

After filing Chapter 11 and selling other pieces of its sporting goods business, Huffy intends to focus on selling bicycles and golf equipment.

It wouldn’t be the first time an adult entertainment company has extended itself to equipment made for the slopes.

Last year, Van Nuys, Calif.-based Vivid Entertainment Group inked a deal for a joint branding campaign with snowboard maker Sims.

Sims redesigned its boards, using photos of the famous Vivid contract performers to spark up its products’ look. The "Fader" series featured images of Vivid contract performers Chasey Lain, Briana Banks, Kobe Tai, Taylor Hayes and Kody, all wearing sexy lingerie.

Sims also introduced limited-edition snowboards with topless images of Vivid contract performers Briana and Cassidey, as well as Jenna Jameson.

And just last year, snowboard maker Burton paid tribute to Chicago-based Playboy's 50th anniversary with a limited-edition snowboard featuring a Playboy rabbit head.
