LOS ANGELES — Photographers Alex Steed and Gustavo Turner are holding an exhibition of their work at the Kinza Kōbō gallery in Highland Park, L.A., this Thursday, Oct. 29.
Titled "Safe Mode Off," the exhibition features photographs chronicling recent years in the adult industry.
"This is the adult industry as you’ve never seen it before," said Turner. "Even if you are familiar with many of these household names — if your household enjoys porn, and who are we kidding, it statistically does — you will be surprised by what Alex Steed and I have put together at Kinza Kōbō."
Steed will be showing color prints from his ongoing collaboration with director/performer Casey Calvert.
"Steed’s artful images subvert preconceptions about both documentary image-making and porn promotional shots, capturing Calvert in a variety of professional and personal situations from an unusually close, intimate perspective," said a rep.
Turner, a journalist who has covered the industry for more than 10 years, including several as news editor for XBIZ, will be showing black-and-white prints of industry luminaries, including Angela White, Remy LaCroix, Riley Reid, Chloe Cherry, Mark Spiegler, Stoya, Ana Foxxx, Romi Rain, Octavia Red, Ivy Wolfe, Siri Dahl, Marica Hase, among others.
"We wanted to have the show in Highland Park because Northeast Los Angeles is a great, walkable spot with amazing art and culture," Turner added. "Come to our gallery opening, buy some prints for your home, and then make it a whole night by checking out the restaurant and bar hub right by the gallery and also on nearby Figueroa Street."
The opening event runs from 7-10 p.m. at the Kinza Kōbō gallery, 5430 Monte Vista Street in Highland Park; the exhibition runs for three weeks.
