Charlotte Sins is cracking the whip. Or at least, she’s pretending to.
Standing over a masked submissive on the set of her X3 cover shoot in North Hollywood, she’s a glam femdom vision in stiletto heels and retro ’50s pinup black hair. Leather whip draped over her bare shoulders, its black tip dangling suggestively between her long, tan legs, Sins moans softly.
No one is recording sound. She’s just really into it.
So is her loyal masked sub, Marcello Slave. When Sins huddles up with the photographer to plan shots, Marcello practically squeals with excitement at the mere thought of being used by Sins. A sub for 14 years, he’s worked for dommes such as Cherie DeVille, Nina Hartley, Sophia Locke and Adriana Chechik. The latter, he proudly boasts, once fisted his ass.
But we’re here to discuss Sins’ accomplishments, not Marcello’s. He’s content to wear a slave mask and sit in silence until Sins needs to use him as a footstool.
“Don’t worry about him — he’s in his happy place,” assures Sins. “This is his bread and butter.”
Later, Marcello rests on all fours as she sits on his back — a pose that he is expected to hold for as long as she wants. Such is another day in the life of Goddess Charlotte, as her adoring fans call her.
Emanating Power
Arriving for her X3 cover shoot, setting down her black leather Betsey Johnson skull purse and changing from her red I.AM.GIA sweatsuit into a hot pink lingerie set, Sins’ bustling energy fits someone in the midst of a very productive year.
In January, she won her very first adult industry award: an XMA trophy for Best Career-First Performance, in “Charlotte Sins: First Gangbang” from SX Originals/Adult Time. Not one to rest on her laurels, she has been busy working for studios such as Transfixed, Love Her Feet, Sweetheart Video, Evil Angel, Girlsway, Kink.com and Hustler, and appeared in Casey Calvert’s recent feature, “Straight Girls.”
“I’m really happy with my track record and the companies I’ve worked for,” Sins declares happily.
She’s feeling especially jazzed about her upcoming first showcase, “Charlotte Sins Is Slutwoman,” which found her taking over Elegant Angel’s long-running franchise. Her seven-year “porn-iversary” struck Sins as the perfect time for a showcase. She calls the production “a huge opportunity” and says she’s thrilled with how it turned out.
“I’m so excited for the showcase to come out,” she gushes. “It’ll be a big moment for me when fans can actually see it. Right now, I’m just in this in-between place, waiting.”
For Sins, waiting generally means working. When she’s not dominating or pegging someone on camera, she’s frequently booked for hardcore gonzo shoots.
“In my hardcore performances, I’m not necessarily being dominant — but I want you to fuck me hard, so I try to still emanate that power,” says Sins. “Topping from the bottom, if you will.”
When not busy with studio work, Sins is equally committed to creating her own content.
“I love being on set, and I love the community of porn, but the way that the world is going, I think it’s important that I still put a lot of focus on my own personal stuff,” she explains.
Though fans are constantly asking her to shoot or collaborate with one person or another, Sins remains pretty selective when it comes to choosing her co-stars — especially since there are always new faces.
“I don’t do rookies,” she says. “I can’t invest too much in people who are brand new, because the chances of someone being here a year from now are very slim. People come in and out so frequently. So usually, someone has to be doing this for a year or two before they actually land on my radar.”
A Little Adventure
Sins currently lives in Los Angeles with her boyfriend of three years — “A civilian!” she jokes — with whom she shares three bunny rabbits and three dogs who love being outside.
“We try to visit parks around LA or go for a nice morning hike together,” says Sins. “And I’m trying to get my boyfriend to learn how to snowboard.”
The two love taking weekend trips together, often renting a van and driving up the coast to destinations like Santa Cruz. After finishing up her X3 interview, Sins is off to finish packing for a trip to Yosemite the following morning.
“California is so huge, and no matter when you go, it’s so beautiful,” sighs Sins.
She typically lets her boyfriend drive while she works — no rest for the weary so long as there’s an active internet connection. On their last big road trip, she chatted with fans with a little help from Starlink, and even shot some content along the way.
“We can just pull over and have a little adventure,” says Sins. “Then we get back in the van and I can upload it from bed, with a dog in my lap.”
Despite the occasional work/life balance issues, Sins says, being able to go online, chat with fans and earn money at any time gives her advantages and flexibility that the average 9-to-5 worker just doesn’t have. With no boss to dictate her hours or salary or promotions, all Sins has to do is open up her phone and start streaming.
“As someone who has a lot of pets, that’s really helpful, especially when they have medical emergencies,” Sins says. “I feel really blessed to have that opportunity, because a lot of people don’t.”
When she does take some real downtime, you might catch Sins reading a sci-fi book by Theodore Sturgeon, or perhaps a Tom Robbins novel. She’s also big on going to the gym, and takes Pilates and yoga classes in addition to embracing daily meditation and frequent journaling.
“Meditation is my therapy,” she attests. “I think it’s quite underrated. I think people could save a lot of money on therapy if they just tried some mindfulness meditation.”
After enjoying what she declares has been a “fantastic” summer, including some Fourth-of-July paddleboarding, Sins is gearing up next for a planned trip to Greece with gal pals Lilly Bell and Cami Strella, to celebrate her upcoming 30th birthday.
Sins plans to pursue several passion projects once she returns from Greece, but for now, she’s excited to travel, see the world and shoot overseas when the opportunity presents itself, knowing it’s important to strike while the iron is hot.
“I’m only going to be a young, hot porn star once,” she winks. “So I really want to live it up while I can.”
Feeling Lucky
After seven years as a performer, Sins reflects, she has grown in many ways. She calls herself “a constant student” of the porn business.
“You see a lot of people come in and out of the industry and do things the wrong way,” she confides. “I feel like I’ve learned a lot from other people’s mistakes. I’ve gained a lot of confidence and learned how to speak up for myself. I’ve discovered my own voice and how I want to be perceived, and what I want my relationships with my co-stars, directors and other people in the industry to look like — but I know I probably have a lot left to learn.”
There’s still plenty of time for that, as Sins plans to stick around for the long haul.
“I’m really interested in learning more about production and behind-the-scenes stuff,” she enthuses. “I have so much fun with my own productions. I plan it out and write a short script and choose the wardrobe. I’ve been experimenting more with bigger productions just for my own content, and it’s so fun. I’d love to learn how to use a camera and know how to do any position on a set.
“Directing is definitely something I want to try — even though all my director friends tell me how horrible it is!” she laughs. “I guess I won’t really know until I do it.”
Ultimately, exploring and experimenting are bigger draws for Sins than worrying about winning awards or putting up the biggest numbers on Pornhub.
“As cheesy as it sounds, I just want to be happy,” she shrugs. “I want to go to sleep at night content with what I’m putting out into the world and the energy that I’m putting into things. I don’t really base my career on boxes I need to check. I’ve got money in my account. I have friends and good relationships with people. I’m able to travel. I feel very happy with where I’m at, and that’s been my goal throughout this whole journey in porn.
“I know I’m lucky,” adds Sins, waxing a bit philosophical.
“This job has been such a blessing,” she marvels. “Especially as someone who felt so insecure in her late teens and early 20s. That has just all gone out the window now. I say this kind of jokingly, but it’s true: The biggest perk of being an adult film star is that I have no shame. For better or worse, I just don’t care what people think about me. I’m very happy with myself.
“Once your gaping asshole is on the internet, it’s kind of hard to have shame or give a fuck what anyone thinks about you!” she laughs.
Sins says she is especially grateful for that feeling because she knows not everyone has that same experience.
“Sometimes people enter the business, and it gets them way more in their head about what they look like and what other people think about them,” she cautions. “But for me, it’s given me this sense of freedom.
“You have one life to live,” she observes. “I’m living my life for me, and nobody else. If you don’t like that I do porn, I just don’t care. Don’t watch it. I think that’s probably the biggest thing the industry has given me. That and the financial freedom to work for myself.”
Of course, there are other perks as well. At the end of the photo shoot, Sins slyly absconds with the whip.
