LOS ANGELES — "Backseat," the collaborative short film directed and produced by Rae Threat, Jiz Lee and Robin Astera, has been selected for HUMP! Film Festival this fall.
Filmed in Berlin, "Backseat" takes audiences on a short porn drive through the city's streets, navigating trans masculine desire and queer liberation from the backseat of a moving car.
The film is an homage to Homobiles, the queer cab service spearheaded by Lynnee Breedlove; safer-sex PSAs from Gay Men’s Health Crisis in the 1980s, including the taxi-themed "Car Service"; and the dream of a world where queer and trans people can travel freely and safely.
Edited by Bex Gin, "Backseat" features cameos by Lina Bembe, Carmina, Ember Fiera and Foxy Alex, and music by Zachery Allan Starkey.
The film has also screened at or been selected for Porn Film Festival Berlin, Blush Film Festival, Athens Porn Film Festival, DRIP Film Festival, and SECS Fest, among others.
"Making 'Backseat' in Berlin was such a fun experience, as we were quite literally filming in the backseat while our editor, Bex, aimlessly drove us around a city none of us really knew," said Threat. "I’m incredibly grateful and humbled that our weird little film keeps finding new audiences, and it's so exciting to now be part of HUMP!"
Lee also celebrated the selection and HUMP's longstanding role in bringing diverse adult films and conversations about sexuality to wider audiences.
"The HUMP! Film Festival has been bringing diverse adult films and conversations about sexuality to the public for over 20 years," said Lee. "They’ve grown during this time, becoming even more inclusive to professionals from the adult film industry. I had such a fantastic time making 'Backseat,' and I can’t wait for HUMP! audiences to see it. We drove all over Berlin to make the film, and now the film will drive all over the globe with HUMP!"
