NEW YORK — Tommy Gunn's new memoir, "Tommy Gunn: Unloaded," which he co-wrote with Jim Steele, has been named a "Distinguished Favorite" in the 2026 Independent Press Award competition.
The Independent Press Award recognizes excellence in independent publishing from around the world. Being named a "Distinguished Favorite" places Gunn’s memoir among a select group of books that demonstrate exceptional quality and content.
"I am extremely honored and humbled to receive this award, and I congratulate all the other winners as well," said Gunn. "Jim Steele and I worked tirelessly with Nikki Anderson and Jon Ford from Tepris Press to make this a reality, and I can't believe this is happening. Thank you, Independent Book Awards."
Anderson enthused about the recognition.
"Submitting 'Unloaded' for the 2026 Independent Press Awards was a no-brainer," she said. "From the moment we received the manuscript, we noted its excellent writing, intriguing story, and all-around fascinating quality. Even before the book was edited, we saw a real gem in Tommy's story and the way that Jim organized it into a page-turner. Now we're just so excited to know that the fine folks at IPA see it, too."
