LAS VEGAS — Michael "Mr. Magic" Barney, the founder of Atlanta's Magic City, has been inducted into Exotic Dancer Magazine’s Hall of Fame.
"While there are many luminaries in our industry, few have ascended to the heights of Mr. Magic," said Exotic Dancer Magazine Managing Editor Kristofer Kay. "Because of his influence on Southern hip-hop, the words 'Magic City' resonate far beyond Atlanta; they’ve become embedded in the American zeitgeist."
Magic City opened its doors in 1985 and quickly became a cultural institution, as it was name-dropped in over 100 songs and profiled in major publications. It's now the subject of a new documentary premiering this month on Starz.
"Michael Barney didn’t just build a club, he built a legacy," added Kay. "He saw value where others saw vice, and gave Atlanta — and the world — a place where the lights shine a little brighter, and where money is literally made to rain."
Barney's Hall of Fame induction came Aug. 24 at the ED Honors Award Show, which was held during the annual Exotic Dancer Expo in Las Vegas.
