Damiano Films to Hold 50th Anniversary Screenings of Restored 'Devil in Miss Jones'

LOS ANGELES — Damiano Films will host screenings of the restored version of 1973 Golden Age classic “The Devil in Miss Jones” in honor of the film's 50th anniversary.

The 4K restoration, achieved by Cineric Inc. using 35 mm film elements, will premiere Friday at The Secret Movie Club in Downtown Los Angeles.

Gerard Damiano Jr. and Christar Damiano, son and daughter of “Devil in Miss Jones” writer and director Gerard Damiano, will present the film and discuss it after the screening in a session moderated by Secret Movie Club founder Craig Hammill.

“The Devil in Miss Jones” was Damiano’s follow-up to the genre-defining “Deep Throat.” The film tells the story of virgin spinster Justine Jones (Georgina Spelvin), who takes her own life only to discover that she is condemned to hell without ever having really lived. She begs for a second chance and vows to live a life “consumed by lust” before accepting her eternal fate.

At the time of its release, Newsweek called it “the most interesting film of its kind to date” and Spelvin’s performance was praised by New York Magazine’s Judith Christ.

After the Los Angeles premiere, the film will travel to Germany for its European premiere at Porn Film Festival Berlin, with two shows at Moviemento Kino Kottbusser on Oct. 16 and 29. “The Devil in Miss Jones” will then return to New York City, where it originally premiered 50 years ago, for the first East Coast screening of the new restored version. That screening will take place on Halloween night at The Cutting Room. A world tour for spring 2024 is also in the works, a rep confirmed.

The Secret Movie Club is located at 1917 Bay St. Friday’s screening begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are limited.
